I am a native Californian and public lawyer. Even in these tight budget times I still feel fortunate to do public service work. I cut my legal teeth on contract city attorney work doing land use, water rights, and CEQA with private firms in Riverside and Los Angeles, representing many cities. I got deep into electronic access to government and privacy while serving as the city attorney in Palo Alto from 1990 until 2003. In 2003, I went east to serve as the city attorney of Boulder, Colorado. After 4 great years in Boulder, I was called back to Ventura, California, where I had previously served as a deputy and assistant city attorney in 1986-88. I have served as the city attorney for San Buenaventura (Ventura) since 2007. Ventura is one of California's old and proud cities, tracing its origin back to Father Serra's last mission established in 1782.
